Where did "spud" come from?

So out of nowhere I have started to call Alec "spud" and for some reason I think it fits him well. Maybe I picked it up from watching too much Toy Story with him and recently his favorite toy has become the Mr. Potato head his Titi Chris got him. He has started a new game where he thinks it's fun to jump off the couch. He jumps feet first, head first and his favorite, cannon ball style.

He also likes to climb up on our nightstands and turn our lamps on and off repeatedly. Man, does he get angry if we try to take him down!  Unfortunately, I see some broken bones in the future with this kid. Thankfuly, we just found out yesterday that a 24 hour emergency room just opened up in the front of our neighborhood.  Talk about piece of mind!!!

Yesterday I did a little celebrating for my upcoming 29th birthday at Painting with a Twist in the Woodlands with some really good friends.  We had a great time and made some pretty paintings.

BJ's Brewhouse was a pretty cool spot.  The food was pretty good too.  Thanks for the great suggestion, Jennifer!  I had an awesome time.  These ladies really did help contribute to me having an awesome birthday.  And I really needed a good time.  A lot of stuff has been going on in my personal life that I will chose not to talk about because I don't want to get all pissed off again.  I will just leave it at that...

Alfred finally got some information on his promotion today and to say the least, we are excited and satisfied with what is coming our way.  He is such a hard worker and truly deserves all that comes to him.

My mom is chillin' (literally) in New York until tomorrow for a vacation.  She really needed one and deserved one.  The temperature in NY has been around 18 degrees and there is snow on the ground everywhere.  I envy her.  I should have saved the ticket for myself.  Kidding mom...

As I sit here and type, Aleczander is enjoying Toy Story for the 3rd time today.  Alfred has the whole movie memorized and can recite it word for word.  Alec knows when specific parts of the movie are coming up like when they are going to scream, make a barking or sheep noise, and he makes the noise before it comes on.  And he says "baby" before the baby actually shows up on the screen. He's so smart.  Too smart sometimes.

Well the next time I make an entry, I will be 29.  Let's see how I feel when I actually enter the last year of my 20's.

Hard to make it a habit.

So, it's been about 3 weeks since my last post and I have nothing to blame but myself. And my son who exhausts me on a daily basis. But he is just so damn cute and fun to be with and I can't get enough of him. Recently we went and had his pictures taken to enter into a "North America's Cutest Baby" contest but the web-site for voting isn't up yet. Not everyone would agree with what the foundation does but I think it is amazing to have people out there that are willing to help a family through their suffering. Well good news came to our little family yesterday. Alfred got promoted to a senior manager at the bank! There are over 220 managers across the state and only 18 of them were chosen for the promotion and my hubby was one of them!! He is so amazing!! He works so hard and gives it his all on a daily basis. He is going to go far with this company, I know it! It was a total surprise to him when they called him on stage to have it announced in front of everyone at the state wide manager's conference. I can't wait to see what's in store for us!



My 29th birthday is in 7 days. My last year in my 20's. Sounds so crazy. I don't feel sad or weird about turning 30, but then again I have another year before that happens so those feelings may change. For my 29th birthday me and some of my girlfriends are going to spend a couple of hours at Painting with a Twist in the Woodlands to hang out and then maybe some dinner afterwards. Just a nice and relaxing Sunday. For my birthday, Alfred finally agreed to purchase my dream TV. I have been attempting to persuade him to buy a new TV for about 2 years now and he finally gave in. So we have an amazing 55' LG LED hanging above our fireplace. It came with a wireless media box that sends the signals of all the components hooked up to it to the TV. So our TV is clean looking and wireless. I love it!! My hubby is so good to me. Of course as soon as the TV goes up the first things to be turned on are Football and then Chugginton for Aleczander. What ever makes my boys happy!

Speaking of Football... I am starting to actually like the sport. Up until this year, I haven't paid much attention to it and I claimed to be a Cowboys fan because my hubby is a Cowboys fan. Well now that I am paying a little more attention, I am beginning to realize the Cowboys suck. So I decided that for next year I am going to pick out my own team and it looks like the Jets may have my vote. I'm from New York so it works. And Mark Sanchez is totally sexy, so it works even more. I makes it easy to keep up with the sport when he's playing.

My first blog. I don't have a clue what I am doing, but here it goes. I will be using this blog to create an online diary of my life, interests, thoughts, etc. so it can be kept for future reference but also so it can be shared with my family and friends. I am excited to get it all started but a little overwhelmed with it. I have a tendency to start a project or idea and not want to stop until it finished. Well the thing with this blog is that it should never really "finish" and that may leave me feeling a little frustrated. But I will give it a shot and hope for the best. I have 2 friends who I know of that have a blog and they have inspired me to start one; My BFF, Jennifer Borgman (Ronchaquira) and an old childhood friend, Jessica Pence (Cooksey). Thank you to you two for your inspiration.

So Aleczander is currently 20 months, about to be 21 months on the 1st of January and dear God he is a handful! He climbs everywhere and into everything, including the dryer, which was funny at first but now it is just plain scary. Needless to say, we got a lock for that door!! He brings us so much joy on a daily basis and is truly our sunshine. His favorite words to use these days are "no, dog, bye-bye, mama (my favorite), nice, agua, baby, pig, car, plane, cheese, choo-choo, and juice. His favorite shows are Special Agent Oso, Chugginton, and still good old Yo Gabba Gabba. He loves the movies Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Shrek (all 4 of them), and Finding Nemo. He loves to add money to his piggy bank that he snorts at. It's so cute when he does that...

He loves anything with cheese (just like his mommy and daddy). Especially macaroni and cheese and grilled cheese sandwiches. He absolutely cannot stand the taste of spaghetti sauce or tomato sauce unless it is on pizza. This kid LOVES pizza. He still only has 4 teeth (which everyone, pediatrician included, tells me not to worry about) so we haven't gotten too advanced with the food options yet. He is currently weighing about 28 lbs and is tall for his age at around 34 inches. He learns so fast and has such an amazing ability to apply it (when he wants). I call him "dude" and "handsome" because he is one handsome dude. I'm sure I should start thinking about his 2nd birthday party, but I am notorious for procrastinating so I will think about it later.

We had an amazing Christmas this year. It was the first year that Aleczander had some kind of idea of what opening gifts was and toys were all about. He received a lot of small things but his big present was his TV. It may seem that he is a little too young for a TV but this kid loves movies and cartoons. We bought him the Toy Story Trilogy and he loves every one of them. My favorite part of Christmas was his pajamas. He looked so damn cute in them! Don't you agree?

Lilly (our Pug) is as fat as ever but she is doing great. She loves her treats and her toys and she is starting to love her brother Alec more and more each time he drops some of dinner on the ground. The "new" house isn't feeling so new anymore. I really wish we had time to paint our walls and give this place a fresh look. There are just so many colors to choose from and it takes so much time to paint. I refuse to pay someone to do it because I actually do enjoy painting if I was to have the time. Maybe I can dedicate some vacation time next year to do that.

I have recently become obsessed with the idea of learning more about photography. My truest dream is to become a professional photographer one day and to own my own photography business. I don't know the first thing about taking pictures or fancy cameras but I do know I love pictures and all that they represent. I don't want to learn about photography through books and classes though. I am a hands on learner. I want to learn as I go and as I experience it. There is a photographer out there who is truly and inspiration to me. She is the wife of a co-worker of mine and she has built her business from the ground up and is amazing at what she does and she is very successful. To do what she has done would be a dream come true for me and I wish I had the time to get my dream started but I know that once I start that it has a high chance of becoming all consuming and an obsession that I would not be able to let go easily.


Although I love the creativity and freedom that comes with being a photographer, I also enjoy administrative tasks such as paperwork, scheduling, filing and other "desk job" things like that. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that I am a little OCD and I LOVE organizing. To me, stress relief comes in the form of cleaning, organizing, de-cluttering and making things more aesthetically pleasing. I think being that slightly OCD person would help me be a successful business owner. I know one day I will pursue my dream and make it a reality. I just need to find that "push" to get me started. Maybe a new and advanced camera would get me there... hint, hint.


I love things that are artsy and crafty and handmade. Etsy.com is one of my favorite websites EVER!! If you have never visited it before, do it now!! I have a few friends who are super artsy and crafty and I wish I had 1/10th of the talent they do. Shannon Jex made Aleczander an amazing growth chart and she is talented beyond belief. http://www.shannonjex.com/. Another childhood friend, Katherine Williams (Phillips) has an awesome artsy side too. She actually handmade a lot of the things at her own wedding, which Alfred and I had the pleasure to attend. She rocks. So do make up artists. It's amazing what make-up can do to a person. The possibilities are endless. At one point in my life, I aspired to be a make up artist. I have a couple of make up books that were my favorites back in the days that I use to study and read often. So many dreams, so little time...

Alfred and I just celebrated our 3rd year anniversary on the 23rd of December. A few days before our anniversary I finally threw away my wedding bouquet. It has spent the past couple of years collecting dust since I never had it properly preserved. Before I threw it away I had to take a couple of pictures. I loved this bouquet and it made me sad to dispose of it. On our anniversary day we both worked and then spent the night wrapping presents and listening to Christmas music. I am so glad we got married around Christmas time. It is our favorite time of the year and we have so many reasons to celebrate. I came down the aisle to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's version of Cannon D and every time we hear it on the radio around Christmas time it reminds us of that special moment before we became husband and wife. Even 3 years into it, we are still learning a lot about each other that we did not know before. I am sure that is a common occurrence with married couples when they have their first child. It changes everything that you thought you knew before and what you thought would happen in the future. It makes life interesting.

On the 17th of December, we went to see my great friend, Nate, play a gig at a local bar. On our wedding day, Nate gave us the most amazing wedding present ever by writing and performing a song for us called "It's About Two."  He sang our song for us again at that gig which happened to be only a few short days before our anniversary so it was extremely special.  We love Nate. 

Well I feel myself starting to ramble and attempt to "finish" the blog by talking about my whole life in one sitting so I will just end it here. I'm sure I will write about it all at some point in the near future. I must say though that even though this is my first post ever, I do feel that blogging could be very therapeutic. Maybe I will just unleash all of my artistic desires on this blog and use it to network with others who share my dreams.
